CHAPTER SIX

Less than an hour later, the dogs were snoozing in their crates, and she and Kane were heading to her home, via her favorite coffee shop that wasn’t too far out of the way.

Morgan glanced across the vehicle’s interior at Kane. “Are you sure you don’t want anything?”

While the breakfast he’d made was tasty, a search of the refrigerator and freezer had yielded no carbs.

“More than positive. Thanks.”

“I admire your restraint.” As for her, she had none. “But you’re not going to steal mine, right? Like no surreptitious drinks when you think I’m not paying attention. Or pretending you don’t like sugar when secretly you do?”

“Sweetheart, your drink is as safe with me as you are.”

She narrowed her gaze. “Is that supposed to be reassuring?”

He laughed, low and super sexy.

“The froufrou whatever is all yours, Golden Eyes.”

If she continued to hang out with him, she was going to burn the calories. The way he looked at her sent shivers racing through her. How was it possible for her to still be this hungry for sex after everything they shared? No matter how many times they made love, her lust wasn’t sated. The more she got, the more she wanted.

Because her mind was in sudden danger of spiraling into naughty territory, she refocused on the app on her phone, scrolling to the screen where she could modify her usual drink order. She opted to add an extra shot of espresso, additional whipped cream, and a double helping of chocolate drizzle.

Both happy and guilt-free, she confirmed the order.

Since his vehicle was so big, he couldn’t fit the SUV into the small shack’s parking lot. So he found a space nearby and turned off the engine, then hurried around to her side.

Instead of offering a hand, he closed his hands around her waist and lifted her from her seat. For several seconds, he held her in his firm grip, his cock pressing against her. It seemed she wasn’t alone in her neediness.

Finally he placed her on the ground. “I can go in by myself, you know.”

“I’m sure you can. But I’m not going to let you.”

After closing her door, he reached for her hand.

“Are you carrying this protector thing too far?”

“No.” He shook his head. “This has nothing to do with that.”

“Ah. Being gentlemanly?”

“Still wrong. I like touching you.”

Inside the store, he stood on duty near the entrance, his arms folded across his chest. Even his jacket couldn’t hide all his sexy, rippling muscles.

After dropping a bill in the tip jar, she headed to the counter where she picked up her coffee and removed the lid to ensure the drink was correct. Then she turned to face Kane and found his gaze was trained on her.

Suddenly an impish, irresistible urge came over her, and she licked the whipped cream, making sure to exaggerate her motions and touch her upper lip with her tongue.

He dropped his arms to his sides.

Taking it as a warning, she recapped her beverage and hurried over to him. “It’s exactly as I ordered it.
